Tom Hardy Will Play Venom!

With the upcoming release of Marvel’s Spider-man: Homecoming, Sony is looking to expand its own cinematic universe with the reveal that Tom Hardy will be taking on the role of Eddie Brock in Venom, according to Variety. Brock is the character who becomes infected with the Symbiote that grants him the power to shapeshift into the vicious antihero.
The site also states that Zombieland‘s Ruben Fleischer will be directing.
Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) will write the script. Sony confirms that the film will be coming out October 5, 2018, with production kicking off this fall.
The Venom character appeared in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, although the reception to that portrayal was less than stellar. I have a sneaking suspicion that Tom Hardy will, at the very least, make for a far more imposing Eddie Brock/Venom. Hopefully the story will be a solid one!
