Giant Leeches to Suck Again

Canadian director Brett Kelly, maker of many a B-movie I freely admit to having never seen before, films such as the Bonesetter movies, My Dead Girlfriend, and the upcoming Kingdom of the Vampire, is teaming up with a B-movie scribe I am familiar with, Jeff O’Brien, scripter of last year’s Insecticidal and Alien Incursion as well as director of an old fashioned rubbersuited monster movie I’m very much looking forward to seeing called Prey of the Beast, to produce a de facto remake of Roger Corman’s 1950 drive-in classic Attack of the Giant Leeches. O’Brien will script with Kelly in the director’s chair for this upgrade that will simply be titled The Giant Leeches.
Kelly told Fangoria that this version will be, “a sexy, gory romp that will tip its hat to the movies of the ’50s and ’60s, but still provide scares for modern audiences” Translation: a retro-styled creature feature with a lot of blood, guts and T&A.
The Giant Leeches will begin rolling this summer after Kelly finishes up his current feature entitled Pirates of Snake Island. How a movie with a title like that is not an Asylum production is beyond me.
