DVD and Blu-ray Releases: October 20, 2015

default-featured-image

We’ve only got 14 releases to tell you about this week, fiends. I must say it’s a welcomed respite from the past few release lists; how do they expect us to purchase 30+ scary movies and have the time to watch them all? This has nothing to do with the fact that I’m being lazy and whiney either. I promise.

The Tenderness of Wolves Blu-ray has been pushed back to November 3rd so keep an eye out for that. Additionally, Amazon has the Blu for Dead Retribution slated for December 8th, but other sites report that it dropped back in September. I’m not sure what the deal is for that title yet, but I’m fairly certain it doesn’t affect this week’s release list any further than what I’ve just informed you about.

This week also sees (a day early on the 19th instead of the 20th) Volumes 1 and 2 of the Toho Godzilla Collection releasing on DVD. Personally speaking, my favorite rendition of Godzilla was rather brief, in an American movie, and portrayed by one Bobcat Goldthwait. My least favorite Godzilla was the one who, as my friend John would put it, could catch a US military helicopter with no problem, yet found disposing of an NYC checker cab occupied by Ferris Bueller to be the most insurmountable of tasks.

Fellow fans of The Final Destination franchise will rejoice in the knowledge of a DVD release of all 5 movies. Somewhere in the great beyond, Rube Goldberg is popping a giant bowl of popcorn for himself.

If you liked either of the “Tales From the Crypt” movies, you’re in luck. Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood are both seeing their Blu-ray releases this week.

There are a few other diamonds listed below to check out as well. Pleasant viewing.

Final Destination

When a boy starts having a premonition of Flight 180 crashing, he tells his friends before they board that it is a bad idea and to not to take the flight. His friends listen to him and don’t go and soon after the plane crashes. Now since his friends didn’t get on the plane one by one they are getting killed in mysterious ways.

Final Destination 2

En route to a weekend getaway with her friends, Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) watches helplessly as a logging truck careens out of control and loses its deadly payload, setting off a horrifying chain reaction that leaves twisted metal and dead bodies in its wake – including her own.

A moment later, Kimberly finds herself still stuck in on-ramp traffic, with a line of commuters she saw die moments before trailing behind her. It was only a vision. But was it also a warning?

Shocked into action, Kimberly blocks the cars from joining the traffic on Route 23 as a young police trooper (Michael Landes) arrives on the scene. The commuters begin to honk and complain until Kimberly’s premonition comes powerfully and tragically to life before their eyes.

Death tears up the highway in a massive pile-up, with those left on the onramp narrowly escaping with their lives. But Kimberly knows it’s not over. Death won’t be cheated so easily. Now this random group of strangers, who in Kimberly’s vision were all meant to die in the freeway disaster, must join her in a thrilling race against time and their own paralyzing fear to do what all but one of the survivors of Flight 180 couldn’t – stay alive.

Final Destination 3

When a high school student fails to stop the fated roller coaster ride that she predicted would cause the deaths of several of her friends, she teams with a schoolmate, in a race against time to prevent the Grim Reaper from revisiting the survivors of the first tragedy.

The Final Destination

On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O’Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave… escaping seconds before Nick’s frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they’ve cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As his premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one–in increasingly gruesome ways–Nick must figure out how to cheat death once and for all before he, too, reaches his final destination.

Final Destination 5

No matter where you run, no matter where you hide…you can’t cheat death.

Or can you? In “Final Destination 5,” Death is just as omnipresent as ever, first revealing its menacing reality to a group of coworkers headed for a corporate retreat. During the bus ride, Sam (Nicholas D’Agosto) has a premonition in which he and most of his friends, as well as numerous others, die in a horrific bridge collapse. When his vision ends, events begin to mirror what he had seen, and he frantically ushers as many of his colleagues—including his friend, Peter (Miles Fisher), and girlfriend, Molly (Emma Bell)—away from the disaster before Death can claim them.

But these unsuspecting souls were never supposed to survive and, in a terrifying race against time, the ill-fated group tries to discover a way to escape Death’s sinister agenda.
