The possibilities are pretty much endless, so how does one find something really fun and exciting?
Well, that’s kind of our job. Apart from suggesting 10 horror podcasts we highly recommend and the hilarious folk over at My Neighbors Are Dead, we feel like making occasional suggestions is a great way to let you know what we’re listening to and enjoying the hell out of. To that end, allow me to introduce you to Kim and Ket Stay Alive…Maybe!
“Each week, either Kim Burns or Ketryn Porter watches a horror movie the other one hasn’t seen, and describes it stopping at key points in the story to ask the other one what she thinks the characters in the movie do next, and more importantly, what she would do to stay alive.“
What makes this podcast so delightful is that you can genuinely tell the friendship between these two hosts. They riff off of each other and they poke fun but it’s clearly all done in the name of a long-established camaraderie. Furthermore, no subject is really off-limits. They dish about their childhood fears, romantic interludes, and the woes of college, among other topics.
At the end of the day, listening to Kim and Ket Stay Alive…Maybe is like finding two new friends who love horror just as much as you do. And what’s better than that?

Episode 008: The Killing of a Sacred Deer or “The Tale of a Sacred Sponge Bob”
In this episode, we learn that, even though the object of the game is to stay alive, Ket insists she would rather kill herself than be forced to kill her loved ones. Also, Kim accidentally calls a “sponge bath for Bob” a “Sponge Bob,” sending Ket into fits of hysterical, breathless laughter.
Episode 010: Halloween (2018) or “The Tale of Trespantsing on the Queen”
In this episode, Kim and Ket are joined by special guest, AGENTS OF SHIELD actress Maya Stojan. They celebrate the birthday of the OG Scream Queen while leading Maya through the 2018 sequel to the John Carpenter classic. Maya proves to be a ruthless “final girl,” despite the fact that they don’t celebrate Halloween in her native Switzerland. Also, to Kim’s chagrin, “
Episode 018: The Babysitter or “The Tale of Intergalactic Cheerleaders in the Carport”
Kim and Ket get irrationally annoyed with the film’s pre-teen protagonist, Cole, prompting them to yell at him throughout the episode. Also, Ket manages to pull off an epic scare, legitimately shocking Kim with her description of one of the film’s quality kills. And Kim accuses Ket of being bougie for using the word “carport.”
Episode 014: Train to Busan or “The Tale of Baby’s First Zombie Apocalypse”
In addition to being one of the most intense movies they’ve covered, in this episode Ket gives Kim permission to bash her head in if she ever gets “zombied.” Kim is surprisingly fine with this.
Episode 020: Black Christmas (2006) or “The Tale of Baltimore County Mansion Brothels”
Ket laments the fact that she and Kim went to college in a county that outlawed sorority houses because they violate an archaic law against brothels. Apparently sorority life, as portrayed in the film, seems pretty sweet — that is, if you don’t count the fact that everyone got murdered. Also, Kim tells the story of the time she called 911 from a Taco Bell drive-through… and got a busy signal!
Episode 010: Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007) or “The Tale of Blue Oyster Tacos”
In this episode, the ladies can’t remember the name of the song “Don’t Fear The Reaper”… and then proceed to sing it a thousand times. Kim has trouble determining which character is played by Danny Trejo, and the ladies introduce their new bell used for score-keeping purposes… and for “more cowbell” when singing “Don’t Fear The Reaper.”
Episode 009: Ginger Snaps or “The Tale of Helicopter Ketryn”
Ket takes pity on the fact that Kim has picked a few bad movies in a row, and tries to pick a bad movie on purpose based on the cover art. Instead, she ends up loving this Canadian cult classic. Also, we learn that Kim is not onboard with what an overbearing parent Ket would be, and Ket is not on board with animal horror.
Episode 021: The Orphanage or “The Tale of Double Dings and Wooden Toys”
Thanks to a coworker, Kim has the theme to the sitcom Growing Pains stuck in her head and gets it stuck in Ketryn’s head… as well as the listeners’. Ket tries to make the catchphrase “double ding” happen, and is shamed by Kim for her weird fear of wooden toys.
Episode 022: CAM or “The Tale of Fancy Girls Live at the DVD Store”
Kim and Ket tackle the Netflix psychological horror about sex
Episode 012: Trick ‘r Treat or “The Tale of Burpsmap and Princess Wilkens”
Kim gets especially tongue-tied trying to say “burlap sack,” which evolves into nicknaming one of the main characters “Burpsmap.” Burpsmap would go on to become a fan favorite catchphrase and running gag, as well as the unofficial mascot of the podcast. Similarly, Ket mocks Kim for rebranding Dylan Baker’s character “Princess Wilkens.” We also learn that Kim hates it when people crawl on the ceiling.
