New Look at Ghostbusters: Night Shift Reveals Terror-Puppy!

Earlier this morning, we reported on Jack Quaid (Scream) joining the voice cast of Netflix’s animated “Ghostbusters: Night Shift” series. Since then, we’ve learned a few more details via Ghostbusters News surrounding the characters of the show, and got a look at what I know is going to be an immediate fan favorite…a terror-puppy!
For those who don’t recall, the terror-dogs are those vicious little guys from the first Ghostbusters film that break out of their stone prisons and wreak havoc through New York. Revealed during a presentation at Annecy, attendees were treated to concept art and exclusive footage. The below piece of art immediately caught fans eyes, as it appeared to be (and was later confirmed) to be a puppy-version of the terror-dogs!
Showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan were present, with Kallan mentioning in regards to the terror-puppy that, “when he pees on things, they burst into flame.” Because of course. The Nightmare on Elm Street 4 dog knows all about that.
In addition to the reveal of the terror-puppy, the showrunners also dropped some details about the show’s characters, stressing their layered personalities.
Noted the outlet: “Zoe was described as an “adorable kid” with a wise-cracking attitude, while Travis (voiced by Jack Quaid) is a charismatic petty criminal who is equal parts cool and loser. Mike serves as the team’s engineering genius, combining scientific brilliance with emotional warmth, while Mitzi is a fearless riot girl whose tough exterior is balanced by her protective relationship with her younger sister, Zephyr. And finally, there’s Belladonna, a goth-inspired character, though no additional details about her role or personality were shared.”
So far, I’m loving what I’m hearing, as the characters sound like the perfect bunch to draw a new generation of fans into the world of Ghostbusters.
The outlet also mentions that several of the supernatural threats featured in “Ghostbusters: Night Shift” were revealed. They include a Poison Demon, a sludgey Rot Monster, and a ghost dubbed Grabby Hands. Supposedly, fans described the footage they saw as “intense”, though the presenters assured that the show will still maintain the comedic elements Ghostbusters is known for, despite the emphasis on the horror elements.
Hey, all sounds amazing to me!
Netflix provided Dread with the official synopsis earlier this morning: “New York City, 1994 — Five years after the Ghostbusters took the Statue of Liberty for a walk, a new wave of supernatural terror hits the Big Apple, forcing a group of scrappy, young New Yorkers — untrained, underappreciated, and kinda sorta responsible for the problem — to put on proton packs, face their fears, and bust some ghosts.”
Dan Aykroyd is attached as an executive producer.
It was also confirmed at the event that the 90s-set animated Ghostbusters series takes place during Walter Peck’s initial run for mayor.
Walter Peck, the bureaucratic antagonist from the original Ghostbusters, first appeared as an EPA inspector who clashed with the team and ordered the shutdown of their ghost containment unit, an action that inadvertently released the captured spirits.
The series hails from Sony Pictures Animation, with Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan of Ghost Corps, Inc. onboard as executive producers. Reitman and Kenan recently co-wrote the live-action features Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, with Reitman directing the former and Kenan directing the latter.
Production on the series will be handled by Netflix and Ghost Corps, Inc., which is based at Sony’s Columbia Pictures.
At this point, we still don’t know who will direct the series or provide the voices for the rest of the cast.
Stay tuned to Dread as we learn more details about the project.
