If you missed Damian McCarthy‘s chilling Hokum in theaters, well, you missed one of the scariest movies of the year so far! But never fear, because Neon has announced that the film will soon bewitch your home on digital, with a physical release following this August.

Starring Adam ScottHokum follows novelist Ohm Bauman as he retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, only to become consumed by tales of a witch haunting the honeymoon suite. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance force him to confront the darkest corners of his past.

In his review out of SXSW, Dread’s own Josh Korngut wrote, “Hokum may not be a perfect film, but it is gratuitously frightening, and for horror fans with a penchant for classical, gothic scares, this is groundbreaking stuff.”

I’m in line with Josh. It’s not my favorite film from the director behind Caveat and Oddity, but damn if it doesn’t deliver on the atmosphere and scares.

Hokum bewitches digital platforms beginning June 2, 2026, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on August 11, 2026.
