‘Under Paris 2’: Alex Aja Returns for Sequel to Shark Thriller

Under Paris

Under Paris 2, the sequel to Netflix’s 2024 hit Seine-set shark thriller, has begun shooting in the South of France with Alexandre Aja in the director’s seat, reports Deadline.

Expectations are high for the production, notes the site, which surprisingly remains the second-most-popular non-English-language film on Netflix, with more than 102 million views, according to the streamer’s own data.

Bérénice Bejo and Nassim Lyes reprise their respective roles of marine scientist Sophia and river police commander Adil, who previously joined forces when killer sharks arrived in the Seine in the lead-up to the Paris Olympics triathlon swimming heats in the famed river.

Set three years later, the new film sees their characters reunite on another high-risk mission to track down Lilith, the original predator, in the shark-infested Seine when the center of the French capital becomes submerged.

Further cast members include:

Guillaume Gouix
Philippe Bas
Manon Bresch
Anne Marivin

Aja, whose credits include Crawl and Piranha 3D, takes over directing duties from Xavier Gens (Frontier(s), who helmed the first film.

“I love Paris, and I always wanted to make a shark movie, so it was an obvious yes when the opportunity came to take the story even deeper,” said Aja.

He also shares co-writing credits with Gregory Levasseur, Frédéric Garcia, William Laboury, Gens, and Fanny Talmone. Aja and Gens are also associate producers, with Vincent Roget producing under the banner of Let Me Be.
