Directed by Kevin Herren

I truly believe that if you’re going to replicate the classics, you better make sure you’ve got a capable cast able to shoulder the load, and no better result could be offered than with Macabre Mansion Presents – presenting three auditory tributes to three timeless stories that will bring you back to the days of old time radio presentation.

Directed by Kevin Herren, and backed by an army of acting talents, all of whom lend their voices to different characters in each tales. I’ll throw out just a handful to whet your appetite: we’ve got Hercules himself, Mr. Kevin Sorbo, Reggie Bannister (Phantasm series), John DeLancie (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Daniel Roebuck (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), and many more. Here are the trio of audio adaptations that are being showcased:

“A Christmas Carol” – Charles Dickens’ enduring yuletide tale is acted out in full by the voice ensemble, and with only a few slight dialogue changes, this is the stuff you want your kids listening to during the holidays – take THAT Mr. Grinch!

“The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow” – Washington Irving’s creepy narrative about a scaredy-cat named Ichabod Crane, and his dogged attempt to escape the Headless Horseman – if you don’t know it…read a book every now and then, could ya?

“The Fall Of The House Of Usher” – Edgar Allen Poe’s ultra-spooky yarn about one of the most ominous residences anyone has ever laid eyes upon – great stuff. Added to this is an adaptation of Poe’s 1843 short-story, “The Tell-Tale Heart” – an extra bonus for those who got lotsa love for the Poe…okay, I’m done now.

Overall, the presentation resembles the old-time radio broadcasts that played all over the country many moons ago, and Herren should be applauded for the talent that has been assembled here in order to provide an auditory experience that will make any fan of those classic shows very happy. Whether bought individually, or jammed together nicely in a 3-CD bundle spanning over 3 and a half hours, this is the stuff that should be enjoyed in place of the computer, or tablet, or TV, or iWatch…get what I’m saying? So roll on back to the olden days, kick back and listen with the lights off…after all, it’s much better in the dark.
