THE LEGEND OF HALLOWEEN Book Review–A Hoot and a Half for Horror Fans!

Written by David Gordon Green and Onur Tukel

Based on the screenplay by John Carpenter and Debra Hill

Synopsis:
Michael Myers has been a naughty little boy. On Halloween night, he took a knife and did some very bad things. Luckily, he was caught and locked away in Smith’s Grove Sanitarium. Dr. Loomis was determined to keep him institutionalized for the rest of his life. Dr. Loomis knew what was behind Michael’s vacant stare… it was evil… purely and simply evil. Years later, Michael escapes and makes his way back to Haddonfield–the night HE came home–for some mischief and mayhem. What is it about Halloween that drives this young man to kill? We might never know.

It’s not a new story. The seminal slasher flick Halloween was released back in 1978; it’s since spawned a gaggle of sequels and a few reboots. But you’ve never heard the tale of Michael Myers (aka the Shape) told quite like this!

Retold through whimsical rhyming couplets and deceptively-innocent illustrations, The Legend of Halloween is a hoot and a half, something horror fans are certain to get a laugh out of. My personal favorite aspect of the story is how damn cute Dr. Loomis is! Just look at his fuzzy-peach head!

It’s a quick and entertaining read. But even though the story is presented in a G-rated format, I’d argue The Legend of Halloween is still a PG-13 affair. It’s not so much an introduction to Halloween for kids, rather a distillation of the original film’s horror viewed through Dr. Suess’s lenses. It might look like something you’d find in a playroom, but The Legend of Halloween belongs on the bookshelves of big boys and girls!

Malek Akkad and Ryan Freimann, producer and executive producer of the 2018 Halloween film and forthcoming sequels, oversaw the production.  The book is now available at http://legendofhalloween.com.
