You see what happens when you decide to play unknown audio files from your damn phone? Jez, I thought I had issues trying to sync my iTunes, but what gets brought forth in Carlos Oscar De Leon’s sub 6-minute short, Invoke is more than any Apple genius could remedy.

A young couple in love (Jones and Dejager) decide to call it a night after she’s far too tired to continue with her class assignment, and the duo go their separate ways – innocent enough, isn’t it? Well, after she opens up an email on her phone requesting that she play the audio file, an odd Evil Dead like dissertation is given about a woman who use to slaughter wayward drifters back in the day…and I think you can guess where this one’s headed. We’re then treated to the obligatory “noise in the night – who could it be?” game of cat and mouse, and I’ll just leave it to you all to check out – I mean come on, the freakin thing’s only 6 minutes!

De Leon uses all of the typical horror instances to set up the scare here, and while it certainly looks good cinematically speaking, by the time a certain event occurs, you’ll more than likely brush it off with a yawn. Simple, to the point, no muss, no fuss – only problem is, haven’t we seen enough of these already?
