Chomper (Short, 2016)
Starring Aesop Aquarian, Courteney Fansler, Pamela Mitchell
Directed by Alyssa and Griffin Devine
The directing duo of Alyssa and Griffin Devine deliver us a tale of an old man who could give the Tooth Fairy a run for his money…or give said fairy the runs due to fear in their short film, Chomper.
The short film, clocking in at a manageable 7 minutes tells the story of a little girl (Fansler) and her mom (Mitchell) who find themselves “closely observed” by an old chap (Aquarius) with a fondness for extra enamel – ah hell, maybe I’m being a bit too kind – he’s stalking them. With a not-so-kind twinkle in his eye and a dustier-than-dusty work ethic, he grinds away trying to find that perfect set of chewers to fit into his grill, and at the risk of sounding too terribly complacent, this short is just that – an old guy waiting to snag some teeth and not much more than that.
Not to say that this quickie isn’t mildly entertaining to check out, but it’s just as simple as that – no muss, no fuss, and sorry to say, no real scares. I’ll give it up to the Devines for putting a nice twist on the Tooth Fairy tale, but all this short did was make me happy that I brushed and flossed for years like a madman.
