homewreckedStarring Jim VanBebber, Tim Quill, Sebrina Scott

Directed by Michael S. Rodriguez

Some can soar above the clouds, while others land with a sickening thud…with all the short films that I’m (quite generously) inundated with, there stands a wide divide on what’s going to work, and what will fail to register on the big scale. Michael S. Rodriguez’s violent quickie, Homewrecked, unfortunately becomes a statistic of stale acting and even more stagnant storytelling.

As Rick (VanBebber) and his wife Nora (Scott) sit down at a nice family dinner to break the news to her dad (Quill) that he’s gonna soon be a proud Grandpa, a knock at the door from a woman (Meghan Chadeayne) claiming to need shelter after she’s been beaten by her boyfriend quickly turns into a home invasion. The group of lowlifes tie up the family and commence a little old fashioned intimidation upon them, only to fall short of knowing that there’s quite the badass in this little domestic trio, and there soon will be blood to be shed (in copious quantities, I might add). Unfortunately, aside from the aforementioned vengeful bloodletting, there really isn’t much more to talk about. Invasion, revenge, and what could be a record for the number of times the word “fuck” was used in such a short span of time.

VanBebber is entertaining as Rick, the protective husband, but the remainder of the cast seemed to trudge though the mud in this one, and at the risk of sounding too negative, the whole revenge-fueled massacre thing’s been done to death – no real redeeming quality lies within. If you’re up for mindless violence, some ample crimson splashing, and more fucks than a fucking truck driver could fucking spit out in record time, mother fucker!…then by all means, enjoy. Me, I’ll be next door waiting for the police to arrive.
