Life and death, pain and suffering… basically no joy to be found anywhere. The film is titled Madness of Many, and it’s directed by Kasper Juhl – I honestly didn’t know much about the man’s work before this particular presentation was handed off to me for review, but I’m always willing to get a little blood on my hands, so here we go.

Right off the bat I’ll tell ya that this is probably NOT a film you’d want to press “play” on around the kiddies. It’s dour, it’s depressing, and it’s somewhat depraved. Now that the compliments are out of the way, the focus is on our main character, Victoria, a self-professed junkie and prostitute – and her past has been the stuff of nightmares. Raped, abused, starved, and generally neglected in every non-humane way possible, her existence has been shattered for as far back as she can remember…see, I told ya – CHEERY.

When we see her from the film’s onset, she (alongside numerous other young girls) is tied up and tortured mentally and physically – can’t this chick get a break? Amongst all of these horrific actions is supposedly a reasoning why this is going on – almost a rite of passage or lesson to be learned. There is a narration-like dialogue which provides us what Victoria is thinking and why she seems so oddly accepting of this hellish sadism.

It’s implied (at a sickeningly repetitive rate) how abhorrent Victoria’s life has become, and the images that accompany the words are mirror-images for sure. The effects are extremely crafte, and are as plentiful as they are stomach-churning. It looks as if Juhl decided to go very heavy on the visuals to supplant the nonexistent reasoning for all this barbarous “guidance” if you will. If you’re a fan of ladies puking blood for no conceivable rationale, then feel free to enjoy. Other than that being said, Madness of Many is one of those movies that should be pushed WAY back into the deepest recesses of your mind if you happened to lay eyes upon it, mainly due to the fact that possibly, way back in that mind of yours, you can decipher just what the hell was going on. For me… I saw it, I reviewed it, and I’ll be taking a pass on it for further views.
