It was interesting to read through the “praise” section for The Silent End. I always avoid these pages before reading any book that I review; I feel that gives me an unbiased opinion of the writing and allows me to be completely honest and open when sharing my thoughts. For the most part, I tend to somewhat agree with the “praise” sections I’m shown, but that wasn’t the case with Samuel Sattin’s The Silent End.

I didn’t merely agree with the praise… I think it deserves more. This novel is amazing – horror writing at its finest, with everything that horror fans could want from the pages of a book. The Silent End grabbed me from the beginning and managed to keep me entertained, on the edge of my seat, and yes, even scared as I read. Sattin weaves crazy worlds together, and somehow they all fit!

Monsters, missing mothers, teenage love… we all know how these stories tend to begin and end, but Sattin manages to add a spin to his story that dragged me in and presented scenes of horror that I couldn’t even imagine. The Silent End feels like a modern day Lovecraft novel, with sarcasm and wit added in for good measure.

It’s a perfect read for the Halloween season, and one that I’d recommend picking up ASAP.
