Twilight DVD & Sequel News

Twilight on DVD!Like it or not, deny it or not, “>Twilight is a phenomenon. Comparisons have been made to it being Harry Potter for girls. I’d say it’s more like a Star Wars prequel for girls – a not-so-good movie based on a hugely popular property that hardcore fans are determined to love regardless of how not-so-good it is. Expect the DVD to fly off racks faster this March than bras at Michael Bay’s St Patrick’s Day orgy.

Summit Entertainment has announced a March 21st date for the DVD and Blu-Ray release of Twilight, including a two-disc special edition. What exactly will fill those two discs has yet to be announced. Unofficial word says to expect at least a dozen deleted scenes and some music videos. Expect full DVD specs to be released very shortly.

I’m crossing my fingers they’ll actually have the gall to include a “making of” short explaining how they did those embarrassing super speed running effects and another devoted to how they painted those vampires so laughably white. There’s also still time to slap on some special cover art that glitters in direct sunlight too.

In other Twilight related news, good news for fans of Taylor Lautner, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that he will be returning to the role of Native American werewolf Jacob in the upcoming sequel New Moon. Since the character of Jacob undergoes a metamorphosis between installments becoming bigger, buffer, and hunkier, rumors swirled that Summit wasn’t entirely convinced he fit the mold and there was talk he would be replaced in the sequel with the ex-Power Ranger who starred in that lousy Scorpion King prequel. Don’t be surprised if Lautner gets a major CW Network pretty boy makeover in time for the shooting of the sequel so that he looks less like JoJo the Dogfaced Boy this time around.

My 14-year old niece will most happy to hear this because she thought he was cute, though still not cute enough to get her to switch from Team Edward to Team Jacob. In fact, one of the presents I gave her for Christmas was a button that read “SAVE A VOLVO, RIDE EDWARD CULLEN.” In retrospect, that might not have been the most appropriate gift to give a fourteen year old girl.
