Shift Change Wins Scare RI Competition
It’s been a long time since we heard anything about the Scare RI screenwriting contest we first told you about way back in “>September of 2007. So long, in fact, that I was beginning to wonder if anything were going to come of it at all…
Turns out that yes, indeed, the project is still happening! The contest, which was sponsored by director/producer and Providence, RI local celebrity Michael Corrente (Showtime’s “Brotherhood”, Brooklyn Rules), saw hundreds pitch their ideas for a horror film, which was then whittled down to 58 who actually had to produce a script, then down to 19 that were good enough, finally settling on Carl V. Dupre’s Shift Change as the winner!
The winning script was announced just before Halloween by the Providence Journal, which may explain why we’re just now seeing it (thanks to the Rasmussen Brothers, whose Skeleton Crew script is another that will eventually be made by Corrente, for the heads up). After Corrente finishes up work on The Prince of Providence, which is supposed to roll soon, work on the first of 10 horror films he plans on producing in a row (profits from the first helping to fund the second and so on) will begin in earnest. Shift Change is scheduled to be the fourth in the series.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this series to see how it pans out, though it could still be a while before the first film starts up. As with all things in this business, that could change at any time so don’t move!
