McFarlane Talks Spawn 2
Can you believe Todd McFarlane still wants to see Spawn 2 made? Considering his idea for the sequel is not a direct follow up to the atrocious first film I guess it’s not too surprising, but it just seems like this ideas been rolling around forever without it getting any closer to reality.
Recently McFarlane talked to GamePro about the status of Spawn 2, which is basically the same it’s been for the past few years. What makes the project interesting is that he wants to keep it around the $10 million mark, wants it to be dark and creepy and wants to direct it himself. ”They’d have to get a young, inexperienced director anyway. My answer is, why not me?” he wisely points out, ”If you’re going to go get a schmuck, let me be your schmuck. And oh by the way, I’ve been living with this movie in my head for a long time. I don’t feel like trying to convey what’s in my brain to somebody else…it would take too long.”
You may recall that one of the central elements of McFarlane’s Spawn sequel (though “reboot” would be a more appropriate term) was that Spawn is barely seen at all, which might be one of the reasons he’s getting so much push back on getting it made.
Whatever the case, I’m sure we’ll keep talking about it for years to come until either Todd gives up or the movie’s finally made. Make sure you hit the above link to read the whole interview!
