MTV Shows Off Scream The Series

During tonight’s “MTV Movie Awards,” the network gave audiences their first look at the upcoming TV series based upon Wes Craven’s Scream film franchise. Dig it right here… right now! Look for the show to premiere on June 30th.

The new “Scream” series centers around a YouTube video going viral that soon leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town’s troubled past.

“The Killing’s” Bex Taylor-Klaus plays Aubrey Jensen. Also starring in the series are Willa Fitzgerald, John Karna, Connor Weil, Amadeus Serafini, Carlson Young, Tracy Middendorf, and Joel Gretsch. Jamie Travis directed the pilot.

MTV and Dimension TV (The Weinstein Company) bring the series adaptation of the hit horror film franchise to television.  Jill Blotevogel (“Harper’s Island,” “Ravenswood”) and Jaime Paglia (“Arrow”) will executive produce and showrun, with John Shiban (“Hell on Wheels”, “Breaking Bad”) on board as a consulting producer.  Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin (“Criminal Minds,” “The Event,” and “Revenge”) wrote the original script.  Under the Dimension TV production umbrella, Harvey and Bob Weinstein will executive produce.  Additional executive producers are Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena, and Cathy Konrad.

Synopsis:
After a cyber-bullying incident results in a brutal murder, the shocking violence stirs up memories of a  killing spree from the past that has haunted some, intrigued others, and maybe just inspired a new killer. A group of teens – with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart – become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets, and victims of a killer who’s out for blood.
