Hardwicke Officially Out of New Moon
I don’t think it’s a smart idea for Summit Entertainment to fuck with a good thing, box office-wise if not quality-wise, so early out of the gate. Nevertheless Variety reports that the Twilight sequel “>New Moon (book review) will be moving forward without director Catherine Hardwicke.
It’s the usual “creative differences” argument; Summit wants to see New Moon, which will require a lot more CG work than Twilight did, by late 2009, early 2010 at the latest. Hardwicke, who started off as a production designer, wanted more time to get the film ready than Summit is ready to give.
Twilight scripter Melissa Rosenberg had a New Moon script done the weekend the first film opened so Summit was quick to greenlight the film, even with no director attached. Hardwicke formally passed on the film on Saturday after negotiations failed to produce a satisfying resolution for both sides.
Wow, almost as dramatic as a teen vampire love story, isn’t it? Keep it here for more on New Moon, which if they follow the book will feature more werewolves than vampires and makes me far more interested in it, as it develops!
