It Follows Getting a Wide Theatrical Release

This past weekend, David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows (review) opened in just four theaters, scooping up a per-screen average that can only be considered widely impressive. As a result, the future release plan was left up in the air, but today comes some clarification. Read on!

Following up yesterday’s report that It Follows may be hitting VOD rather than expanding to more theaters, Bloody Disgusting reports today that the film’s VOD release is apparently being held off for a bit, as Radius-TWC plans on giving the money-maker a widespread theatrical release.

Radius will not be releasing It Follows on VOD or cable platforms anytime soon, and a wide theatrical run is most definitely happening,” writes BD’s Brad Miska. “It’s expanding this coming weekend, and will be creeping to a theater near you sooner than you think.”

We don’t yet have any theatrical listings or concrete confirmation about the future of It Follows, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted!

With a riveting central performance from Maika Monroe and a strikingly ominous electronic score by Disasterpeace, It Follows is an artful psychosexual thriller from David Robert Mitchell (The Myth of the American Sleepover).

The film also stars Keir Gilchrist (“The United States of Tara”), Daniel Zovatto (Laggies), Jake Weary (“Chicago Fire”), Olivia Luccardi (“Orange Is the New Black”), and Lili Sepe (Spork).

Synopsis:
For 19-year-old Jay (Monroe), the fall should be about school, boys, and weekends at the lake. Yet, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, she suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions; she can’t shake the sensation that someone, or something, is following her. As the threat closes in, Jay and her friends must somehow escape the horrors that are only a few steps behind.
