Gaiman’s Graveyard Book Headed to Big Screen
Neil Gaiman’s latest novel, The Graveyard Book, just hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller’s list, and Gaiman couldn’t be happier about it. He recently chatted up the folks at MTV to talk all things scary and revealed that a movie version is already in the works.
The book, about a young boy raised by ghosts in a graveyard that’s told in a similar way to The Jungle Book, has been a desired property since before it was even published. A few companies wanted to do it as animation, but Gaiman held out for live-action “I want to see the ghosts for real. I want to be able to touch the graveyard,” he told the site.
The rights for The Graveyard Book have been awarded to UK effects house Framestore whose credits include, among others, Harvey Dent’s incredible Two-Face transformation in The Dark Knight. They’re branching out into filmmaking, and Gaiman was impressed with all they had to say when they pitched for the right. ”I don’t think it’s going to be transported to a graveyard in Los Angeles where they’ve been burying bathing beauties or anything,” he said. ”I think we’re actually going to stick with where the book is written and film that. And I think part of the idea is that they know they can also do the special effects cheaply.”
Sounds tantalizing, no? Make sure you hit the MTV link to read more cause it gets better. And be sure to use the link below to get The Graveyard Book for yourself!
