Overture Preps Crazies Remake
Though it’s not really news, as we’ve mentioned this more than once before, Variety reports this morning that Overture Films is finally moving forward on the long-gestating remake of George Romero’s The Crazies with Sahara helmer Breck Eisner still seated firmly in the director’s chair.
The script is by Scott Kosar, Ray Wright, Michael Aguilar and Dave Georgaris and, as you can tell, has been passed around Hollywood for a long while now. I’ll be curious to see what, if any, of Romero’s original vision of a town overrun by a deadly virus remains intact. The pic really couldn’t be more timely; I just wish it wasn’t a remake and they tried something at least somewhat original.
Shooting is expected to start early next year on The Crazies redux, which you may recall was set up at Rogue Pictures for years and was at one point going to be directed by Brad Anderson. That was back when we were looking forward to it; now I’m just not sure how I feel about it … Keep it here for updates on both the film and my feelings!
