Though we know who’s attached to star, we haven’t yet been provided with many details in regards to The Neon Demon‘s plot, aside from director Nicolas Refn (Drive) stating that it’s a female-driven affair. That changes today, and oh boy are those details juicy!
As reported by What Culture, the LA-set film is reportedly about a group of supermodels going to extremes in their attempts to keep looking the way they do, and the site suggests that the extremes in this case are voodoo and cannibalism.
“There’s a little Countess Bathory in this concept,” they say. “To put it bluntly, she’s the crazy lady who had virgins murdered so she could bathe in their blood. She was a monster.”
The Neon Demon stars Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Elle Fanning (Super 8), Abbey Lee (Drive), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1), and Bella Heathcote (Beneath Hill 60).
Production is slated to begin March 30th.
Refn said of The Neon Demon, “One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty.”
Refn’s regular collaborators, editor Matthew Newman and composer Cliff Martinez, will be joined by The Grandmaster director of photography Philippe Le Sourd on the film. Refn’s partner, Lene Borglum, will produce under their Space Rocket banner.
