Just Another Day at Blood Beach in The Sand

I had long wondered if we would ever get a remake of the early Eighties cult favorite Blood Beach until I read that the film is stuck in some sort of legal limbo over ownership rights. The new beast beneath the beach flick The Sand sounds about as close as we’re ever going to get.

Here’s the synopsis: After an all-night graduation beach party, a group of hungover twenty-somethings awake to a beating sun… and a seemingly carnivorous beach that devours anything with a heartbeat that touches the sand.

Leading the pack of potential victims are Playboy Playmate Nikki Leigh, “Hannah Montana” actor Mitchel Musso, Dean Geyer of “Glee” fame, and Jamie Kennedy as a beach cop. Kennedy is quickly becoming a go-to guy for oceanic tentacle creature features, having also co-starred is last year’s Asylum creature feature Bermuda Tentacles.

Isaac Gabaeff directs from a script by former WWE staff writer Alex Greenfield and The Aggression Scale scribe Ben Powell.

Not much else out there about The Sand other than it being in post-production and a Twitter feed (@TheSandMovie) where they asked people to help select which version of the promo art to go with. The first poster below seems to be the one they’re going with, but my vote is the one underneath it based on the tagline alone.
