Legendary on Board for Gears

Gears of War gets more moneyWow, some news that’s not coming out of Comic Con directly. Very strange to report. But that’s what Variety is good for. They got word this morning that Legendary Pictures has come on board the production of the Gears of War to co-finance the project.

Teaming up with New Line, the first project Legendary has signed on to since New Line got folded into Warner Bros., Legendary will both co-finance and co-produce. Underworld mastermind Len Wiseman is still at the helm; no casting has been done to date.

With the sequel to the incredibly popular video game due out in November, one would think the film would not be far behind, but alas, there’s still no definitive date as to when the Gears movie will be out, nor when shooting begins. In case you never played it or have live under a rock, Gears of War follows an elite team of soldiers as they battle their way across a ravaged landscape, fighting off alien invaders and attempting to reach a device that could decisively bring the war to an end.

No word on how closely the movie will follow the game, but as soon as we hear more, you will too!
