The Fly: The Opera?
Of all the films of David Cronenberg I would’ve expected to eventually become operas, I would have to say The Fly was one of the least likely. I mean, I could see Dead Ringers done melodiously before The Fly, but that’s why Cronenberg is a genius.
Rehearsals are under way for The Fly opera, which will run in Paris’ Chatelet Theater and the Los Angeles Opera, with five performances scheduled to run through July 13th, according to THR. Howard Shore returned to compose the music for the operatic version of the story of a scientist turning into a giant fly after a teleportation experiment goes wrong, and tenor Placido Domingo will be conducting.
It’s a strange idea, but if anyone can pull it off it’s Cronenberg, right? Be sure to pay a visit to the official The Fly: The Opera site to learn all about the show and when you might get to experience it for yourself!
