Duff Gets Spiked in Backwoods

Backwoods comes to Spike! While the Sci-Fi Channel is currently the top network when it comes to premiering B-movie genre fluff, though the Hallmark Network, Ion, and even Lifetime have also been increasingly uncorking some horrific humdingers, Spike TV (AKA the Ultimate Fighting channel) is only starting to make waves in the original movie field. While mostly focusing on action oriented thrillers, Spike TV’s “Spike Guy Movies” will be taking a turn into horror territory next month with Backwoods starring Hillary Duff’s sister, Haylie, who also co-starred in Napoleon Dynamite, so she had experience dealing with weird inbreds.

“Backwoods is a terrifying thriller centered on a group of young colleagues who set out for a fun company retreat in the remote woods, only to find themselves hunted by the unknown and fighting for their lives. Each year, Global Gaming invites seven up-and-coming employees to participate in a company-sponsored weekend getaway to challenge their survival skills and build camaraderie.

Knowing that this is their chance to make a good impression, Perry (Danny Nucci, World Trade Center), Lee (Haylie Duff), Adam (Ryan Merriman, Final Destination 3) and several others leave the city behind and prepare themselves for some friendly, competitive games. However, upon arrival, they split into two teams and immediately begin to notice that things aren’t quite right. The uneasiness quickly turns to horror when one team loses its way and the members find themselves under attack. The surviving team must now fight to save its friends, all while being viciously hunted in the booby-trapped backwoods.”

That threat comes in the form of an inbred backwoods religious cult. Or as the rest of us call it, West Virginia. I kid. I kid.

A quick peek over to the website for RHI Entertainment, the most preeminent producers of made-for-television movies – or so it seems these days, reveals a plethora of images from the film all annoyingly adorned with a big company watermark.

Spike TV will let everyone enter the Backwoods on Sunday, June 8th at 9/8 Central, most likely sandwiched somewhere in between a rerun of “CSI” and another UFC special.
