Some really good and some really, really bad horror DVDs are coming your way this Tuesday, May 13th. Be sure you read about ’em all so you know which is which!

Directed by Kit Ryan

Stephen Dorff plays a professional thief in this film that apparently does a pretty good job of mixing its horror with its humor. The only survivor of a bank heist that goes really, really wrong, he’s forced to take the rap for what went down and is sent to Russia to steal an antique cross from a skyscraper. This doesn’t go so well for him either, and things just increasingly go from bad to worse for him and his accomplices. Check out our “>Botched DVD review to learn more! Buy it here!

Directed by Various

That’s an awful lot of words for what is actually just a boxed re-release of some of Universal’s massive library of sci-fi classics (and not so classics). In this collection we have Tarantula, Monster on the Campus, Cult of the Cobra, Mole People, Incredible Shrinking Man, Monolith Monsters, Leech Woman, Deadly Mantis and Land Unknown. Personally I’ve only heard of maybe half of those, but then I’m un-educated. Really, though, you can’t beat the price! Buy it here!

Directed by Paul Andrew Williams

As if things weren’t complicated enough trying to manage a kidnapping, two rival siblings have holed up in a secluded cottage in the middle of nowhere to wait for their ransom to come through. Their hostage won’t be quiet or stayed tied up, however, so they’re dealing with that when all of sudden the cottage’s neighbor shows up: an axe-wielding madman whose got some secrets and issues far darker and deeper than the bad guys. Click here to see it bigger!Demon Pond (2005)
Directed by Takashi Miike

Man, Miike really knows how to turn ‘em out, no? I’ve never even heard of this one before, which is kinda strange since it’s only three years old, but for all I know he made the damn thing in a weekend and forgot about it. The story is about a man searching for his friend who mysteriously disappeared. Along the way he encounters magical creatures, a heartbroken princess and other fantastical elements he’s not expecting. Since it’s Miike, I doubt it’s really straightforward horror, but it sure sounds suitably weird enough! Buy it here!

Directed by Xavier Gens

Well, I liked this one; it was just smart enough to make it fun and really, really gory, but others have felt otherwise I found since posting my “>Frontier(s) DVD review, so I guess you’re going to have to check it out for yourself to figure out whose side you’re on. The story is about some kids escaping a riotous situation in Paris who end up at a cabin run by psychotic cannibalistic neo-Nazis. Not the most original idea ever put to film, but for me it was all about the execution. Buy it here!

Directed by Antonio Curry

A man is fired for doing inappropriately sexual things at work and is soon taken over by his lust. So now that he has more free time to oogle women and think nasty things about them, he does, but soon he finds out that there are some women who don’t like being oogled or having nasty things thought about them. I don’t know about you, but I’d be pissed if I spent however many thousands of dollars I’m sure this movie cost only for it to get some of the lamest DVD art I’ve ever seen. Buy it here!

Click here to see it bigger!Stump the Band (2006)
Directed by William Holmes

An all-female rock band is touring the country to make a name for themselves, but they end up in Wisconsin. Yep, sounds like a horror movie to me. All right, there’s more. While in Wisconsin (shudder), they encounter a band of backroad psychos, one of whom has a damn big axe and a fetish for feet. I’m guessing the means he likes cutting them off and keeping them, not just giving foot massages. Buy it here!

Click here to see it bigger!Timber Falls (2007)
Directed by Tony Giglio

A couple decides that going out into the middle of nowhere, in the woods, is a romantic way to spend some time together. Or something like that. Their romantic interlude is cut short when a crazy man, intent on harvesting babies from the women he captures, shows up and starts making a mess of things. It’s really too bad the DVD art for this is so incredibly lame; the poster art was much better. But you should pick it up anyway! Check out our “>Timber Falls DVD review for more! Buy it here!

Directed by Gregory Hoblit

Wow, can you believe this is what passes for horror nowadays? Like if this was all we got in the cineplexes to fulfill our bloodlust? Maybe then all those cries of “horror is dead!” would be justified. Thankfully, though, this is just what Hollywood thinks is horror, or at least some studios do; a movie about a killer using the Internet who just cannot be found, no matter the technology used.
