#SDCC14: Screen Gems and Sam Raimi To Turn The Last Of Us Into A Movie
Some of the coolest news coming out of this year’s Comic-Con is word that Sony Screen Gems and Sam Raimi are preparing a feature film adaptation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. Read on to hear all about this bad boy!
Sam Raimi will produce The Last of Us for Screen Gems. It will, of course, be an adaptation of 2017’s Naughty Dog game. Creative director at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, will write the film for Raimi, which is expected to remain very true to its source material.
Druckmann is in charge of choosing the director, and it won’t be Raimi. On the topic of the script, the movie will have a “laser focus” on the Joel and Ellie relationship, and some of the setpieces from the game could potentially find their way into the film. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) was mentioned as a possibility for live action Ellie, and the crowd responded quite favorably to the news.
The Last of Us movie isn’t likely to feature actors doing an imitation of the performances we saw in the game, as Druckmann would prefer to use actors who will create their own interpretation of the characters.
There hasn’t been anything concrete announced with respect to a release date, so I’m sure this will be the first of many announcements you hear on the subject of this one.
