Did Fans Finally Find Ash's Hidden Delta 88 in 'Evil Dead Burn'?

When Sébastien Vaniček stopped by Reddit for an AMA ahead of the release of Evil Dead Burn, one fan asked the question every longtime Evil Dead fan wanted answered: did Sam Raimi’s iconic 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 make it into the movie?

The director’s answer immediately kicked off a hunt among horror fans.

“The Oldsmobile, yes! We had it, we hid it in the movie, so you have to keep an eye open to see it,” Vaniček told fans.

For days after the film’s release, nobody could confidently identify where the famous car appeared. Fans combed through the movie looking for the classic Easter egg, but no screenshots, timestamps, or definitive answers surfaced.

That may have finally changed.

Over the past 48 hours, multiple Reddit discussions have independently landed on what appears to be the same conclusion. Rather than hiding the Delta 88 somewhere outside the cabin or in the background of a wide shot, several viewers now believe the car briefly appears inside one of the framed family photographs hanging on the wall during the film’s fiery finale. One fan noted spotting the Delta 88 “briefly in a photo in the living room scene when it’s on fire,” prompting another viewer to reply that it was “right next to the Bruce photo too.” In a separate discussion, another fan suggested they were “pretty sure the Delta 88 was next to it,” receiving the simple response, “It is.” You can read those discussions for yourself here.

Interestingly, fans were already circling that exact moment days earlier. Before anyone had reached a consensus, one viewer posted that they were convinced they had seen the Delta 88 inside “a burning family photo,” though nobody could verify it at the time. Looking back now, that early observation seems to line up almost perfectly with what multiple viewers are now describing.

Having seen Evil Dead Burn twice myself, I think I may have noticed the same thing. During the fire near the end of the movie, I’m almost positive I caught a glimpse of the Delta 88 inside one of the burning framed photographs. It happens incredibly fast, so I can’t honestly say I confirmed it with certainty, but after seeing several fans independently point to the exact same sequence, I’m much more convinced that’s where Vaniček hid it.

I also could have sworn I spotted another burning photograph that looked like the famous group shot outside the cabin from The Evil Dead (1981). If I’m remembering correctly, it flashes on screen for only a split second before it’s consumed by flames. I can’t confirm that’s what it was, but it certainly caught my attention during both viewings, and it’s possible that’s where the Delta 88 is hiding as well.

For longtime fans, the Delta 88 is one of the franchise’s most beloved recurring Easter eggs. Ash famously drives the weathered 1973 Oldsmobile to the cabin in The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II, and the car has continued to pop up throughout the series in one form or another, including Army of Darkness, Evil Dead (2013), Ash vs Evil Dead, Evil Dead Rise, and now, apparently, Evil Dead Burn. Beyond the franchise, director Sam Raimi has also hidden the Delta 88 throughout much of his filmography, from the Spider-Man trilogy to Drag Me to Hell, turning it into one of cinema’s longest-running inside jokes.

Until Vaniček confirms the Easter egg himself—or someone finally posts a crystal-clear screenshot—this remains fan speculation. Still, with multiple viewers independently identifying the same burning photograph, this is by far the strongest lead horror fans have uncovered since the director first admitted the legendary Delta 88 was hidden somewhere in Evil Dead Burn.
