Did You Spot This 'Evil Dead Rise' Easter Egg in 'Lee Cronin's The Mummy'?

Lee Cronin‘s The Mummy screeched into theaters back in April to a mixed response. Some audiences fell in love with the film’s Evil Dead energy, while critics largely panned the sophomore feature from the director behind Evil Dead Rise. Personally, I think it could’ve used a lot more mummy, for starters. What I love about movies, though, is that there’s always something new to discover. And in the case of The Mummy, it turns out there’s a fun easter egg in the film that’ll have fans squirming.

Posted on IG today by the film’s official account, it was revealed that during one moment of The Mummy, we can actually spot the cheese grater from Evil Dead Rise, apparently being used as a lamp!

That’s a polar opposite use from the object’s handling in Evil Dead Rise. Anyone who’s seen that will no doubt immediately tense up as they recall the thing being used to shave flesh off a victim’s leg. *Shudder*.

The franchise has long had a tradition of household objects becoming brutal weapons of pain, but Rise took it to another level with that cheese grater. And based on what we’ve seen, Evil Dead Burn appears set to up the ante.

In Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, “The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.”

Starring are Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Laia Costa (“The Wheel of Time”), May Calamawy (“Moon Knight”), Veronica Falcón (“Ozark”), May Elghety (Clash), Natalie Grace (“1923”), Shylo Molina (“The Afterparty”), and Billie Roy (Spirit Halloween: The Movie).

The film is now available on Digital and VOD. If you’re wanting to revisit the cheese grater scene of Evil Dead Rise, you can stream that banger now on HBO Max.
