Curry Barker’s ‘Milk and Serial’ Might Be Getting a Feature Film Adaptation; Watch it Here!
Filmmaker Curry Barker is all the rage right now. His debut feature, Obsession, is breaking records at the box office. Before the film even opened, A24 offered him the job to direct the next Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. Buzz for his sophomore movie, Anything But Ghosts, is already building. And now, we’re learning that the filmmaker’s previous works may be up for adaptations, as well.
In a chat with THR, Barker was asked about interest in his previous shorts. After all, the YouTuber has been making movies for years, with plenty of material to mine from. “The Chair could definitely be a horror film. I think eventually it would be cool to bring a feature version of the haunted chair story to life. Milk and Serial [about a serial killer with a YouTube prank channel] is probably going to happen [as a film]. I wonder if there’s an opportunity to bring somebody else onto Milk and Serial and I’ll produce but not necessarily direct.“
Milk and Serial follows a serial killer played by Barker who has a prank channel…one that devolves into the most twisted “prank” of all time. Obsession‘s Cooper Tomlinson also stars.
I can’t speak much to The Chair (though a haunted chair film sounds fun). But I have seen Milk and Serial, the serial killer movie that brought loads of attention to Barker. It left me impressed and excited for what Barker would do next back when I saw it a couple years ago. Though I never could’ve been prepared for Obsession to be as good as it is.
Still, the move makes perfect sense for any studio looking to find success off of Barker, the hot new toast of the town. Along with Barker, I’d also rather see someone else take the reigns in the director’s chair. He’s been there, done that. I expect many would agree that we’d rather see Barker tackle something he hasn’t done, rather than repeat himself. Plus, at an hour long, Milk and Serial is right on the edge of a feature film already, anyway.
Either way, the wave of news regarding Barker feels as if it’s only just beginning. A dam is about to break. As Obsession continues to smash records, expect a lot more studios to come calling for Barker. He’s the new obsession, and we couldn’t be happier for him.
