‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Actor Anthony Head Has Passed Away at 72

Sad news this morning, as Variety has just reported that Anthony Head, best known for his role in the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series, has passed away at the age of 72.
The outlet notes that his daughters Emily and Daisy announced his death in a statement to the BBC, saying their father “passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family.”
They wrote, “It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many. We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in — he loved his job very much, and he always considered himself incredibly lucky, to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people, in such wonderful productions, across a career that spanned several decades.”
Fans of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” are more than familiar with Head. He played Rupert Giles, the man who mentors Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) to hunt vampires. Rumor had it than Joss Whedon intended to continue Giles story following “Buffy’s” conclusion, titled “Ripper”, but the series never came to fruition.
Other genre appearances from Head include films such as Let the Wrong One In and Repo! The Genetic Opera. He was also a series regular on shows like “Merlin” and “Ted Lasso”.
Our hearts go out to Head’s family and friends.
