Jordan Peele Was Offered a Chance to Appear in 'Scary Movie'...But Said Nope

The Wayans Brothers return with the 6th entry in their Scary Movie spoof franchise this weekend. We’re reported on all sorts of titles that the filmmakers are taking a stab at in the new film…including Jordan Peele‘s breakout hit, Get Out. Turns out, the director was offered a cameo in the film, but turned it down.

During an interview with THR, Marlon Wayans acknowledged as much. Notes the outlet, “he [Marlon] told Peele they would be spoofing Get Out in the movie, “he was like ‘Oh, cool.’ I was like, ‘You want to be in it?’ He said, ‘Nah.’ I was like, ‘Alright, not that cool’.

Ah well. Can’t blame them for trying!

Added Wayans, referring to the filmmakers and films they target, “They know that for us, mockery is the greatest form of flattery. The fact that we can do that and make the world smile with the stuff that they did, I’m grateful that they keep making great art.

Wayans explained during the interview that asking filmmakers for permission isn’t something they normally do. “You don’t ask for permission, you just kind of do it and hope they enjoy it — and if not they’ll never cast you in one of their movies, and that’s OK.

Marlon Wayans (Shorty), Shawn Wayans (Ray), Anna Faris (Cindy), and Regina Hall (Brenda) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.

In his review of Scary Movie, Dread’s own Josh Korngut wrote, “It all comes down to what Scary Movie lives or dies on: it isn’t funny. To quote the wise words of one Trinity the Tuck, I kept finding myself asking: “Where are the jokes?'”

Sounds like Peele might’ve made the right decision.

Paramount Pictures will release Scary Movie in theaters everywhere on June 5.
