Fred Hechinger Joins Murder Mystery from Jason Bateman ‘The Cackling of the Dodos’

Fred Hechinger (Fear Street) has been cast in a lead role for what sounds like a horror comedy, The Cackling of the Dodos, reports Deadline.
How about that title? I’m instantly intrigued.
“Based on an original screenplay by novelist Rye Curtis, The Cackling of the Dodos centers on George, a small-town farmer whose discovery of a corpse in a grain bin leads his shady boss Denny to force him into a chaotic, bloody cover-up.”
While the premise doesn’t outright scream “horror comedy”, based on that title, dead bodies, and a “bloody cover-up”, we can hope!
Hechinger joins Sam Rockwell (Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die), Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), Michael McKean (Better Call Saul), Esther McGregor (Babygirl), Jenn Lyon (Claws), and Emy Coligado (Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair).
Jason Bateman (“Ozark”) will direct.
Producing are Bateman and Michael Costigan for Aggregate, alongside Elise Konialian for Untitled, Anna Schwartz and Jeremy Plager for Children at Play, and Mark Berger. Executive producers include Harrelson and Rockwell, as well as Erica Kay, Ara Keshishian, and Petr Jakl.
Horror fans will surely know Hechinger, as he played Simon in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy. Since then, he’s appeared in films such as the horror comedy Hell of a Summer and the recent Marty Supreme.
