‘Terrifier’ Creator Damien Leone to Direct ‘Tortures of the Damned’ for Lionsgate!

While horror fans anxiously await Terrifier 4, it seems creator Damien Leone already has his next project lined up, as THR is reporting that the filmmaker’s next feature will be Tortures of the Damned for Lionsgate!

While there are no plot details, the outlet notes that the film will be, “different in tone from Terrifier and will sport a heftier budget than the low-budget Terrifier franchise.”

Could that mean something a little less gory and more serious in tone? We have no idea, but we can’t wait to find out! Whatever the case, with that title, we have no doubt the film will land squarely in the horror genre.

Lionsgate did, however, post a teaser poster on X (see below). The image sure looks like some sort of monstrous wings. Perhaps vampire or gargoyle wings? We can certainly dream about the latter, as there are not nearly enough good gargoyle horror movies…or any, for that matter. How cool would a bloody, gargoyles creature feature from Leone be? Fingers crossed.

Leone will write, direct and produce the film.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are also producing through Ghost House Pictures alongside Lionsgate.

Scott O’Brien and Pavan Kalidindi will oversee Leone’s Tortures of the Damned for Lionsgate, with Romel Adam and Jose Cañas overseeing for Ghost House and executive producing.

Said Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, “We’re incredibly proud and excited to be partnering with Damien Leone on his first original film after the beloved Terrifier series. I join the huge contingency of horror fans — and Damien fans — inside Lionsgate who have been following his work and cheering him on. Damien is a true genre auteur with a singular vision, and we’re thrilled to help bring this bold new project to the screen while continuing to build on the incredible connection he has with fans around the world.”

Leone has seen an impressive rise over the years. What started with his low-budget Terrifier in 2016 quickly grew into a mega-popular horror franchise, with each entry getting bigger and bigger (including wider releases in theaters). The central villain, Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) has become a beloved horror icon. It was only a matter of time before Leone moved onto a project outside the franchise and into the Hollywood system. With Tortures of the Damned, he’s accomplished that, and I know there will be many fans who can’t wait to see what he does.

Next up from Leone is Terrifier 4, continuing the violent exploits of Art the Clown as he brings mayhem and terror to victims on New Year’s Eve.
