First Two Entries in Supernatural Franchise ‘Birds of the Soul’ Begin Filming November

Constantin Popescu has signed on to direct the first two entries of new horror franchise, Birds of the Soul, reports Deadline this morning.

“Set in the Carpathian Mountains in 1917, the first film follows a remote village gripped by unexplained events as wartime paranoia collides with ancient mythology and supernatural forces.”

Just Entertainment and AiMation are behind the franchise.

Said P.J. Pettiett of Just Entertainment, “Birds of the Soul is designed as a grounded supernatural epic that explores faith, fear, and survival through a distinctly cinematic lens. Constantin brings an extraordinary level of realism and atmosphere to this world, and we believe the franchise has the potential to resonate globally.”

Added Popescu, “What drew me to the project was the opportunity to build something mythic and emotional within the reality of war. At its core, this is a story about humanity confronting forces it cannot fully understand.

Green-lighting back to back sequels before the first film has released. Just ask Renny Harlin and his Strangers trilogy. Still, I’m digging the premise of this, so let’s hope the studios are just that confident in the project.

Production is slated to begin on the first two installment this November in the Dominican Republic, with each being filmed back to back.
