Tubi Orders ‘Yokoso Scooby-Doo!’ Anime with Matthew Lillard Voicing Shaggy
Scooby-Doo and the gang are taking their crime-solving talents to Japan in Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, an anime series ordered by Tubi from Warner Bros. Animation, reports THR.
The series, “follows Scooby and Shaggy (voiced by Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard, respectively) as they visit Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure. While there, they unwittingly unleash hundreds of mythical monsters that are causing trouble across the country. With the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, along with new friends, magical girl Yume and gadget whiz Takumi, the group embarks on an all-new mystery filled with monster chasing and fun chaos.”
Itsuro Kawasaki will direct, with Francisco Paredes serving as co-producer.
This marks the first anime series in the long-running Scooby-Doo universe. But it’s far from the first time Welker and Scream‘s Matthew Lillard have been involved with the series. Frank Welker has voiced Scooby for more than two decades, while Lillard played Shaggy in the live-action films and has voiced the character multiple times since.
Said Tubi chief content officer, Adam Lewinson, “Scooby-Doo is one of the most beloved franchises in entertainment, and Yokoso Scooby-Doo! lets us reinvent it in a way fans haven’t seen before. By bringing Scooby and Shaggy into a bold anime world set in Japan, we’re connecting with global fandoms and delivering the kind of fun, chaotic mystery that travels across generations. Scooby-Doo is one of a handful of characters that had a massive impact on young horror fans like myself growing up. The hijinks of Scooby and the gang as they faced off against villains parading as monsters acted as prime gateway horror material that had me tuning in every day to see what the Mystery Inc. crew were up to. Seeing them in a whole new way should be exciting to any fan of the franchise.
The anime will air on Tubi in the United States and Cartoon Network internationally.
Yokoso Scooby-Doo! is just one of two series set in the world of Scooby-Doo coming our way. Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo: Origins, about how the Mystery Inc. crew came together, began filming in April.
