Confirmed: New Take on ‘The Blair Witch Project’ to Follow a Family on a Camping Trip

We recently received the excellent news that stars of the 1999 The Blair Witch Project, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, as well as the film’s directing team of Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick and Gregg Hale, are executive producing a new take from Lionsgate and Blumhouse. Now, rumors are beginning to circulate as to the plot.
Hidden within a Deadline report this morning were the outlet’s comments on what they’re hearing the new Blair Witch will revolve around. “While plot details are officially under wraps, we hear it will deal with a family that goes on a camping trip but goes missing one by one after they hear strange noises in the forest.“
Dread Central can CONFIRM this is the setup for the next Blair Witch Project.
Obviously, this is only what the outlet says they’re hearing. As they note, this is not the official synopsis. Still, we’ll take any news we can get on the mysterious project.
I personally love the idea of The Blair Witch Project following a family. These movies are all about pushing people to their limits, breaking them down, and turning them against one another in the face of terror. Imagine how much more intense that could be with a family lost in the woods?
Dylan Clark (Portrait of God) is set to direct the project from a script by Chris Devlin.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are partnering on the next Blair Witch, much like the forthcoming new Saw entry. Jason Blum will team with producer Roy Lee (The Ring, Godzilla, It) on the new Blair Witch.
