Producer Intan Kieflie Launching Indonesian Horror Slate at Cannes

Indonesian-Australian producer Intan Kieflie is set to present a slate of horror films at Cannes this week through Kraken Entertainment and Anak Negeri Films, reports Variety.
Including in the lineup are:
- Ibu: Mother of the Lost
- Sukma
- Ritual Gaib: Nyai Randasura
Ibu is described as a “bilingual maternal horror project in pre-production”. It “follows a grieving mother named Dewi who withdraws to a dilapidated lakeside property she intends to transform into an orphanage. But once there, she finds two dead children already living there and calling her by the titular name.” The film stars Yayan Ruhian, Christine Hakim, Alexander Wraith and Kieflie.
Sukma is a completed supernatural horror film from director Baim Wong.
Lastly, Ritual Gaib: Nyai Randasura is touted as “ready to release” and is part of a wider franchise dubbed “The Black Ritual Universe”. It has spanned films, books, podcasts and even documentaries.
Said Kieflie, “Indonesia is not short of stories. Every island has its own fear, ritual, ghost and emotional truth. The opportunity now is to bring those stories to the right global partners with the right packaging, the right strategy, and the right respect for where they come from.”
Obviously, Kieflie’s correct. Just ask my favorite Indonesian filmmaker, Joko Anwar (Satan’s Slaves), who consistently delivers shocking, unique horror stories unlike anything you’d see anywhere else.
Consider me hopeful we get to view all three of these projects sooner than later.
