Psychological Horror Microdrama ‘Path of the Lost’ to Be Found at Cannes

Germany’s Black Forest Studios is bringing microdrama psychological horror Path of the Lost to Cannes this week, reports Deadline.

Inspired by true events that occurred in 1936, “The film follows five students who take a weekend trip to Germany’s Black Forest, only for the journey to slowly descend into a nightmare.”

Black Forest specializes in “microdramas’, which just sounds like another way of saying short films.

The studio says Path of the Lost combines the, “intensity of psychological thrillers with the accessibility and pacing of modern short-form entertainment — while maintaining a cinematic standard in directing, atmosphere, and production quality.”

Added CEO Sebastian Weiland, “We see microdrama as one of the most exciting growth opportunities in the global entertainment landscape. With Black Forest Studios, we are building a fully integrated studio model — from development and production to distribution of premium microdrama content.”

To me, this seems like a direct result of the popularity of platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. We’ll see if “microdramas”, as they’ve been dubbed, become as popular as Weiland believes.
