Did You Know Osgood Perkins Produced ‘Backrooms’ and Mentored Kane Parsons?

The 'Backrooms' Trailer Is a Suffocating Descent Into Terror!

People attending recent screenings of Backrooms, the upcoming feature adaptation of Kane Parsons’ viral analog horror series, were surprised to spot an interesting name in the credits: Producer Osgood Perkins.

Perkins reportedly played an important behind-the-scenes role on the film, acting as a mentor to Parsons throughout the production. At just 19 years old, Parsons entered Hollywood to direct a major feature film for A24 and Atomic Monster, adapting one of the internet’s biggest horror sensations into his very first studio feature. It was a huge task.

According to multiple sources familiar with the production, Perkins helped Parsons develop the screenplay, occasionally shadowed him on set, and served as an important mentor throughout production.

The involvement was later confirmed publicly during a red carpet interview with Discussing Film, where Perkins discussed the project. He was also reportedly spotted quietly sitting in the back of a recent screening, watching the film himself.

Perkins has become one of the most prominent voices in modern horror over the past several years. After premiering The Blackcoat’s Daughter — originally titled February — at the Toronto International Film Festival, he went on to make Gretel & Hansel, Longlegs, and The Monkey.

What makes the pairing especially exciting is how specific Backrooms feels visually and tonally. Perkins has always brought a unique artistic vision to horror filmmaking, and when you’re making something like Backrooms – a film built around atmosphere, texture, liminal spaces, and very specific imagery – having somebody like him alongside Parsons feels like a perfect creative fit.

Backrooms arrives in theaters in the coming weeks (May 29), and there’s already a growing sense that the film could become a major breakout moment for Parsons and for liminal horror as a whole. A unique, new perspective is here, and that’s very exciting. We’re all rooting for Backrooms and the young Parsons.
