‘Happy Death Day 3’: Jessica Rothe Teases Director’s “Incredible” Ending to Trilogy!

Add Happy Death Day to the list of horror franchises fans are still begging to see continued.
We all fell in love with Jessica Rothe‘s Tree Gelbman, a college student who relives the day of her murder over and over until she identifies her killer.
The first film, directed by Christopher Landon, was released in 2017 by Blumhouse and Universal Pictures and grossed over $125 million worldwide; its sequel, Happy Death Day 2U (2019), grossed approximately $64 million globally.
Christopher Landon has long envisioned Happy Death Day as a trilogy, and Jessica Rothe has remained open to returning as Tree, with Landon saying in 2020, “I want it, Jessica Rothe wants it,” and Rothe saying in 2024 that Landon “has the whole thing figured out.”
While Rothe recently teased it again, today we have a meaningful update from the star in an interview promoting her next horror feature, the excellent thriller Affection.
“I actually just had dinner with Chris Landon last week, and we have a sneaky plan, and it’s not even that sneaky of a plan; it’s just that we feel incredibly passionately about making the third film happen,” Rothe tells ComingSoon when asked for an update.
“We are dedicated to do the legwork on our end in terms of developing it and getting it to where it needs to be so that it becomes a no-brainer for the studio,” she adds, alluding to the fact that the studio still isn’t convinced of the box office viability of a third film.
Happy Death Day was always teased as a trilogy, and now Rothe is teasing an ending that wraps up the entire story perfectly, which makes me want to see it even more.
“Because Chris feels really strongly, and I agree, he’s come up with an incredible, incredible end of the trilogy and a way to kind of perfectly cap the movies,” she said.
“And I just love Tree, and I want to give her her final day, although, because she’s a final girl, I’m sure there is no final day. Like it could just keep going and going and going. But yeah, we both feel very passionately about it. And so I want to tell the fans, thank you for your patience, and we are working on it, but I don’t think that they’ll be disappointed.”
Here’s a fun scene from Happy Death Day as we pray this isn’t just a loop of us wishing for a third and final film.
