Huge news, as Dread has learned that a restored and remastered director’s cut of Ken Russell‘s masterpiece, The Devils, is coming to theaters this Fall in 4K!
Perhaps Russell’s most notorious film,The Devils is set in “17th-century France, where Father Urbain Grandier’s protection of the city of Loudun from the corrupt Cardinal Richelieu is undermined by a sexually repressed nun’s accusation of witchcraft.”
The film stars Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave.
I recently went on a run of Russell films, and I can still say that this epic is my favorite work from the filmmaker. And to think we’ll finally see this new cut…I’m giddy with anticipation.
Assembled from the original camera negative, the new 4K restoration is Ken Russell’s definitive vision of The Devils. It references the edit he privatrely constructed in 2004, providing the uncut and unfiltered theatrical experience that the filmmaker always envisioned.
This new 4K restoration of Russell’s masterpiece was assemgled from the original camera negative. The film’s sound has been remastered from the original English composite 35mm Mag Film, transferred at 96kHz, plus other original film elements in selected spots as needed. The picture and Sound restoration was performed by Warner Bros. Post Production Creatuive Services, Water Tower Color, ands Warner Bros. Sound.
The reconstruction of the director’s cut was undertaken by Lucida Productions, London.
Go to hell with The Devils when the new director’s cut arrives in theaters for one week beginning October 16th via Warner Bros. Clockwork.
