Jonathan Tiersten of ‘Sleepaway Camp’ Has Passed Away

It is with a heavy heart that Dread has learned of actor Jonathan Tiersten‘s (Sleepaway Camp) passing.
Tiersten was 60 years old.
The news was announced by Tiersten cousin, Peter Kuperschmid, writing on Facebook: “It is with the deepest sadness that I have to share such tragic news. My amazing cousin Jonathan Tiersten has unexpectedly passed away. He was such a loving, passionate, talented and caring soul that made this world a much better place. I am beyond broken and numb! He spent the week of Thanksgiving with me and my family. It was wonderful. We wrote and recorded lots of great music together which I need to finish and release. An amazing actor, musician, athlete, father, brother, cousin, friend!! I LOVE YOU JT Jonny Abs! It will never be the same without you!”
Best known for his role as Ricky in the cult classic Sleepaway Camp, Tiersten appeared in various genre films. They include Return to Sleepaway Camp, The Perfect House, Blood Reservoir, and most recently, the New Year’s Eve slasher, Time’s Up.
I don’t know about you all, but I constantly repeat Tiersten’s Sleepaway Camp line of, “eat shit and live”. Tiersten has everything to do with why that dialogue remains iconic, thanks to his pitch-perfect delivery.
Our hearts go out to Tiersten’s surviving family and all those who loved him.
