Unnerving ‘Obsession’ Clip Turns Romance Into a Toxic Spiral
Focus Features just provided Dread Central with the very first official clip from their romantic thriller/horror film Obsession, which takes us inside an upscale restaurant where the couple is enjoying one of their first dates. But the seemingly perfect evening quickly spirals when he catches her in a lie, triggering an uncomfortable meltdown as she realizes she may have ruined both the night and her chance at romance. Of course, none of it is real to begin with… he wished for the relationship, and now she’s become dangerously obsessed with him.
In Curry Barker‘s film, after breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic (Michael Johnston) finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.
Obsession stars Inde Navarrette in her breakout role: “Her ghoulishness has all the makings of a newly minted horror icon. I’m not exaggerating when I say this performance is genuinely startling,” Josh raved about the film. “Think of Mikey Madison’s fireworks in Anora, then imagine she’s been bitten by a Deadite suffering from the world’s worst migraines. Her suffering is nearly as frightening as the suffering she enacts on the world around her. It’s a revelation.”
The trailer is downright creepy, with Navarrette’s performance escalating from obsessive to violently unhinged, hinting at something demonic beneath it all.
We think you’ll fall in love.
The film has been Rated R for “strong bloody violence, grisly images, sexual content, pervasive language, and brief graphic nudity.”
Focus Features is bringing your new horror Obsession to theaters nationwide on May 15.
