‘The Blair Witch Project’ – Original Cast and Filmmakers Have Joined the Upcoming Reboot!

BREAKING: Huge news this morning as THR reports that Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, stars of the original 1999 The Blair Witch Project, will serve as executive producers on Lionsgate’s upcoming reboot, along with the first movie’s directing team of Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick and Gregg Hale!
Blair Witch fans, eat your heart out.
The news comes following Leonard’s frustration with the original creators initially not being involved, to which he said on IG: “25 years of disrespect from the folks who’ve pocketed the lion’s share (pun intended) of the profits from OUR work, and that feels both icky and classless.”
Sounds like someone heard Leonard loud and clear. He was right, too. Leonard and the others have experienced a whole lot more ups than downs with what happened following the success of Blair Witch, so it’s great news to hear of their involvement.
Dylan Clark (Portrait of God) is set to direct the project from a script by Chris Devlin.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are partnering on the next Blair Witch, much like the forthcoming new Saw entry. Jason Blum will team with producer Roy Lee (The Ring, Godzilla, It) on the new Blair Witch.
Released in 1999, the first Blair Witch film – directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez – became a cultural phenomenon, earning $248 million worldwide. It was followed by the sequel, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, which grossed about $47 million worldwide, and later by a reboot/sidequel from Adam Wingard that grossed roughly $45 million worldwide, rounding out the trilogy.
In the OG: Three film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.
No plot details just yet for the new Blair Witch.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are set to launch sales at Cannes for their reboot.
