‘Devil’s Mouth’: Amazon MGM Studios’ Shark Thriller Receives a PG-13 Rating

While release details are still being hashed out, Amazon MGM Studios’ survival thriller Devil’s Mouth has been given an official MPA rating, scoring a PG-13 for “violent content, bloody images, some language, and suggestive material.”

Horror maven Kathryn Newton (Abigail, Ready or Not 2, Freaky, Lisa Frankenstein) and Lana Condor (Pretty Lethal) star in the film that follows college friends on a trip to Thailand who become trapped in an underwater cave system with a bull shark. Old tensions and power struggles resurface as they fight to survive.

The film, a co-production with Lionsgate, was directed by Jeff Wadlow, best known for a trio of not-so-great Blumhouse films: Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island, and Imaginary.

Aja Gabel (Sunny, The Staircase) and Myung Joh Wesner (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, High Potential) wrote the script, which was featured on the 2019 Black List, with revisions by Wadlow, per Deadline.

Producers include Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road Films, alongside Wadlow. Thunder Road is behind the John Wick films. Carsten Lorenz will executive produce, with Chelsea Kujawa overseeing for Lionsgate. Helen Lee-Kim and Michael Meyer negotiated the deal on behalf of Lionsgate.
