‘I Am Legend 2’: Steven Caple Jr. Directing, Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan to Star!
BREAKING: I Am Legend 2 is officially in development, with Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II, Man of Fire) attached to direct, reports Collider.
The sequel will star Will Smith, reprising his role from the original film, alongside Oscar-winning actor Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Sinners). The project continues the post-apocalyptic story first introduced in 2007’s I Am Legend.
The original film follows Dr. Robert Neville, a scientist who appears to be the last human survivor in New York City after a man-made virus wipes out most of humanity and transforms others into aggressive, nocturnal mutants. Immune to the virus, Neville works to develop a cure while navigating isolation and constant danger.
The film is based on the 1954 novel I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, a seminal work in post-apocalyptic and vampire fiction that has influenced decades of genre storytelling.
Notably, the novel ends very differently from the film, with Neville realizing he is perceived as a legend among the infected, which makes his confirmed return in the sequel somewhat unclear given the character’s fate in the theatrical version.
Upon its release, I Am Legend was a major commercial success, grossing over $585 million worldwide and becoming one of the highest-earning films of 2007.
