‘Good Boy’ Filmmaker Next Directing Boogeyman Horror Movie ‘Ankle Snatcher’ for Sony

Hot off the success of his experimental feature, Good Boy, director Ben Leonberg has been tapped to next direct the horror film Ankle Snatcher for Sony Pictures, reports Deadline this morning.
Based on the short story of the same name by Grady Hendrix, the tale “follows a man haunted by the childhood trauma of his mother’s murder, which his father blamed on a boogeyman under the bed, and his terrifying realization that the creature may be real.”
The story was first released in September 2023 as part of a Creature Feature collection put out by Amazon Original Stories.
Leonberg is writing the script with his writing partner, Alex Cannon.
Todd Black,Jason Blumenthal and Tony Shaw are producing for Escape Artists, alongside Hendrix and Adam Goldworm for Aperture Entertainment.
Good Boy caught the attention of horror fans everywhere with a tale about a very good dog attempting to warn his owner of a ghost in their midst. In her review out of SXSW 2025, former Dread EIC Mary Beth McAndrews described the film as a, “Surprisingly creepy haunted house movie [that] features the best canine performance since The Thing“.
Personally, I can’t wait to see what Leonberg does with his next outing.
